Gustave Whitehead Wants to Compete in a $200,000 Airship Contest at St Louis in 1903.

ST LOUIS, Jan I5 — The first formal entry into the Worlds Fair airship contest for a $200,000 prize was made today by Gustave Whitehead of 241 Pine st, Bridgeport, Conn, who in a letter to director of works Taylor says that: he has been working on the problem of the dirigible balloon for the last 10 years, and achieved a one and one-half mile flight on June 3, 1901.

He states that he has a large force of men engaged in making a new and improved airship, which will be his 21st machine, and he expects to make a still better one for 1903.

He asked that his name be entered on the list of competitors, and that a copy of rules and conditions to govern the contest be mailed to him at once.
